CNC Precision Machining & Cutting

Computer Numerical Control Glass Machining with ±0.05mm Dimensional Tolerance

Process Overview

Foundation of Precision Fabrication

CNC machining is the foundational process in optical display glass fabrication. Our CNC machining centers use diamond tooling to cut, shape, drill, and contour glass panels to exact customer specifications. Unlike traditional straight cutting, CNC enables complex 2D profiles, internal cutouts, beveled edges, drilled holes, notches, and stepped features that are impossible with manual methods.

We operate multiple CNC machining lines supporting glass from 0.2mm ultra-thin to 19mm thick, with maximum workpiece sizes up to 1500×2000mm. Typical operations include: external contouring, internal cutouts (sensor windows, camera holes), hole drilling, notch/slot cutting, edge profiling (C-cut, pencil edge), and 2.5D/3D edge chamfering.

FAQ

CNC Machining Questions

We accept all major CAD formats including DXF, DWG, STEP, IGES, SolidWorks, and AutoCAD files. We can also work from PDF drawings or detailed sketches for simple designs. Our engineering team provides free DFM (Design for Manufacturing) feedback with every quote, flagging potential issues like sharp internal corners, too-small holes, or difficult-to-machine features before production begins.
Our minimum drillable hole diameter is 1mm, with a recommended minimum of 1.5x glass thickness to minimize breakage risk. For holes smaller than 3mm, we recommend leaving 2x diameter of edge distance. Hole position accuracy is ±0.03mm, and we can drill multiple holes in precise patterns for camera arrays, sensor windows, or fastener mounting.
Absolutely. CNC machining enables complex 2D profiles, internal cutouts, notches, slots, and stepped features that are impossible with manual cutting. We can machine sensor windows, camera holes, speaker grilles, and custom contours. Minimum internal corner radius is 0.5mm (sharp internal corners require wire EDM or other methods). We support both through-holes and blind holes where required.
Our CNC machining centers handle glass thicknesses from 0.2mm ultra-thin glass up to 19mm thick glass. Different tooling and feeds/speeds are optimized for each thickness range. For ultra-thin glass (0.2-1mm), special fixturing and vacuum chucks are used to prevent breakage during machining. Maximum workpiece size is 1500×2000mm on our largest CNC centers.
We provide multiple edge finish options: seamed edge (safe handling only), flat edge, C-cut (chamfered) edge, pencil edge (rounded), beveled edge, and polished edge. Polished edges have surface roughness Ra < 0.5μm for optical clarity. Edge finishes are selected based on application: C-cut for general safety, pencil edge for consumer electronics, polished edge for high-end optical applications.
